Wedding Venues in Central Auckland

Central Auckland is where wedding venues in Auckland meet the harbour, the Domain and the volcanic parkland. The area has 41 listed venues, from CBD hotels and a church to a yacht squadron, a garden pavilion and a charter boat.

They are spread across suburbs including Parnell, Mount Eden, Ellerslie, Remuera, Mission Bay and Mount Wellington. Many of the venues sit on the water or close to it, and several occupy historic buildings.

The harbour edge is a strong theme.

  • Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron stands at Westhaven Marina at the foot of the Harbour Bridge and is rated 4.6 from 1026 reviews. Its spaces run from a ballroom for up to 400 guests to the Dinghy Locker for 150, the North Lawn for 130 and the Quarterdeck for 125.

Hotels and large rooms suit longer guest lists.

Couples who want a setting rather than a ballroom have plenty to look at. Wintergarden Pavilion, listed as Wintergarden Cafe - New Zealand, stands in the Auckland Domain at Parnell and dates from 1913. Ceremonies can be held in the garden, on the outside deck under the oak tree or inside the main room set up in chapel style.

Smaller and community-rooted venues round out the page.

Common questions about wedding venues in Central Auckland

Which central Auckland venues can hold both the ceremony and the reception?

Crowne Plaza Auckland by IHG lets couples hold both in the one building. Sorrento in the Park in Cornwall Park handles the ceremony, reception and catering in one location. Mantells Mt Eden and Orakei Bay also have a ceremony and a reception on site. Wintergarden Pavilion in the Auckland Domain offers garden, deck and chapel-style indoor ceremonies.

Who has an indoor option if it rains?

Mantells Mt Eden has an inside option for the ceremony, reception or function. Mount Richmond Hotel & Conference Centre holds poolside ceremonies with a backup indoor venue. Sorrento in the Park also offers a wet-weather option. A marriage licence ties the ceremony to the places named on the application, and govt.nz advises putting a back-up venue on it.

Which venues are right on the water?

Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron is at Westhaven Marina, and Akarana Event Centre is at Ōkahu Bay. Orakei Bay stands on Orakei Basin, with a waterside garden for the ceremony. Five Knots looks over the water at Mission Bay. Ocean Groove Cruises takes up to 50 guests aboard a 50-foot charter boat from Westhaven Marina.

Where can we hold an Indian, Pasifika or other cultural wedding in the city?

Glasshouse Morningside has dedicated pages for Indian and Pasifika weddings and takes up to 160 guests. Dalmatian Cultural Society at Villa Dalmacija in Eden Terrace seats up to 250 and hires its Ballroom and Members Lounge to non-members. Manurewa and other southern halls are on the South Auckland page.

Which venues allow us to bring our own alcohol?

Glasshouse Morningside and Orakei Bay both offer BYO alcohol. Mantells Mt Eden does not. Terms differ from venue to venue, so confirm what is allowed, and any corkage, directly with the venue before you commit to a date.

Which heritage buildings can be hired for a wedding in central Auckland?

Wintergarden Pavilion in the Auckland Domain dates from 1913. Parked Up | Licensed Urban Oasis is in a 1905 Edwardian villa at Victoria Park. Ferndale House and The Libraries are also heritage buildings, and Antlia combines a heritage building with a waterfront setting. St Matthew-in-the-City is an Anglican church in the CBD.
